Traditional ?arnaval in Rio de Janeiro is taking place once a year and this year, the main celebration in the city will last from 2 to 5 February. The main event of the carnival is a competition in the traditional dance Samba. In Rio de Janeiro 12 main samba schools. In fact, it is areas of the city. During the carnival competition is taking place not only in the ability to dance, as well as competition for the best costume and decoration.

5. Megalopyge opercularis

The moth Megalopyge opercularis has numerous common names, including southern flannel moth, pussy moth, puss caterpillar, and, in Texas, asp. It is visually striking in both larval and adult forms. The inch-long larva is generously coated in long, luxuriant hair-like setae, making it resemble a tiny Persian cat, the characteristic that presumably gave it the name “puss.” The ‘fur’ of the larva contains venomous spines that cause extremely painful reactions in human skin upon contact. The reactions are sometimes localized to the affected area but are often very severe, radiating up a limb and causing burning, swelling, nausea, headache, abdominal distress, rashes, blisters, and sometimes chest pain, numbness, or difficulty breathing.

6. Giant Anteater

The Giant anteater can be found in large parts of southern Central America and the northern and central parts of South America. The anteater’s mouth is a small opening at the end of a long snout on an elongated head. They have very poor eyesight but well-developed hearing and smelling senses. A keen sense of smell is critical for the Giant anteater. It is used to locate ant colonies located in the anteater’s territory. The coat is gray in color with a distinctive black and white shoulder stripe. Anteaters feed on ants and termites ripping open a nest and harvesting the insects with their long thin grey tongue that can grow up to a meter in length. 7. Giant isopod

They are thought to be abundant in cold, deep waters of the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean and, is the largest known isopod and is the one most often referred to by the common name “giant isopod“. Maturing to a length between 19 and 37 cm, and maximally reaching a weight of approximately 1.7 kg. Giant isopods are important scavengers in the deep-sea benthic environment. Although generalist scavengers, these isopods are mostly carnivorous and feed on dead whales, fish, and squid.

8. Long-Eared Jerboa

The Long-eared Jerboa is a nocturnal mouse-like rodent with a long tail, long hind legs for jumping, and exceptionally large ears. The Long-eared Jerboa can be found in desert of Trans Altai Govi Desert and the Gobi Desert in Mongolia.

9. Platypus

The Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) is a unique mammals species because they lay eggs. The platypus lives only in Australia. It has webbed feet and a large, rubbery snout; these are features that appear closer to those of a duck than to those of any known mammal. The body and the broad, flat tail of the Platypus are covered with dense brown fur that traps a layer of insulating air to keep the animal warm. Weight varies considerably from 700 g to 2.4 kg with males being larger than females: males average 50 cm total length while females average 43 cm. It is one of the few venomous mammals ; the male Platypus has a spur on the hind foot which delivers a poison. Platypus venom is not considered to be life-threatening to a healthy human. Platypus poison triggers severe pain, but is so excruciating that the victim may be incapacitated.

About first collapse of the bridge
The bridge was nearing completion, when the local engineering began noticing increasing distortions of key structural members already in place. After four years of construction, the south arm and part of the central section of the bridge collapsed into the St. Lawrence River in just 15 seconds. Of the 86 workers on the bridge that day near quitting time, 75 were killed and the rest were injured.
About second collapse of the bridge
After a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the collapse, construction started on a second bridge, but September 11, 1916, when the central span was being raised into position, it fell into the river, killing 13 workers.

December 15, 1967. Silver Bridge (USA)
46 people dead.

On December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed while it was choked with rush hour traffic, resulting in the deaths of 46 people. Investigation of the wreckage pointed to the cause of the collapse being the failure of a single eye-bar in a suspension chain, due to a small defect only 0.1 inches (2.54 mm) deep. It was also noted that the bridge was carrying much heavier loads than it was originally designed for and was poorly maintained.
The new bridge that replaced the Silver Bridge was named the Silver Memorial Bridge.

March 17, 1945. Ludendorff Bridge (Remagen, Germany)
28 people dead.

28 U.S. army engineers were killed while working to strengthen the bridge, and 93 others were wounded.

May 9, 1980. Sunshine Skyway Bridge (Florida, USA)
35 people dead.

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge was collapsed on May 9, 1980, when the freighter SS Summit Venture collided with a pier (support column) during a storm , sending over 1200 feet of the bridge plummeting into Tampa Bay. The collision caused six automobiles and a bus to fall 150 feet, killing 35 people.

June 28, 1983. Mianus River Bridge (Connecticut, USA)
3 people dead.

Three people were killed when their vehicles fell with the bridge into the Mianus River 70 feet below, and three were seriously injured. Collapse due to failure of the Pin and Hanger assembly supporting the span.

October 21, 1994. Seongsu Bridge (Seoul, South Korea)
32 people dead.

On October 21, 1994, Seongsu Bridge connecting Seongsu-dong and Apgujeong-dong of Gangnam-gu, Seoul, collapsed. The slab (48 m) between the fifth and the sixth leg of the Bridge collapsed so 32 people died and 17 people were injured. One of its concrete slabs fell due to a failure of the suspension structure. This structural failure was caused by joints of trusses (steel structures) supporting the bridge slab were not welded to the full; the welding thickness, which should be over 10mm, was only 8mm; and further, connecting pins for steel bolts were poor.

January 4, 1999. Rainbow bridge (China)
40 people dead.

In January 4, 1999, a pedestrian Rainbow bridge across the Qi River in the Sichuan province collapsed three years after it was built. The collapse of the Rainbow bridge led to 40 deaths and 14 injuries. Parts of the bridge were rusty, concrete used in its construction was too weak and there were serious welding problems.

March 4 , 2001. Hintze Ribeiro Bridge (Castelo de Paiva, Portugal)
70 people dead.

On March 4, 2001, the Hintze Ribeiro Bridge, made of steel and concrete, collapsed in Entre-os-Rios, Castelo de Paiva, Portugal, killing to 70 people, including those in a bus and three cars that were attempting to get to the other side of the river.

August 28, 2003. Bridge Daman (Daman, India)
25 people dead.

At least 25 people, including 23 children, die when a bridge in the western coastal area of Daman collapsed into a muddy river, throwing a school bus, 10 vehicles and pedestrians into the swirling waters due to heavy rains.

November 7, 2005. (Almunecar, Spain)
6 people dead.

Five Portuguese and one Spanish national died near Almunecar on Spain’s, after a 20-ton section of motorway viaduct fell from 80 meters onto workers below.

December 2, 2006. (Bihar, India)
33 people dead.

Thirty-three people are killed when a 150-year-old bridge, being dismantled, crashed on the train near the Bhagalpur railway station in the state of Bihar.

August 1, 2007. Minneapolis I-35W bridge (Minneapolis, USA)
13 people dead.

On August 1, 2007, during the evening rush hour, the main spans of the bridge collapsed, falling into the river and onto its banks. Thirteen people died and approximately one hundred more were injured. The 1,907-foot bridge fell into the Mississippi River. Currently under investigation.

August 13, 2007. Tuo River bridge (Hunan, China)
34 people dead.

The 140-foot-high bridge spanning the Tuo River in the central Hunan city of Fenghuang collapsed as workers removed scaffolding from its facade. Investigation underway.

There was the fashion show for pets in New York – Pet Fashion Week. One of the original organizers of the event was the Swarovski company, which determined the participants Fashion Week. Meanwhile, reconstruction is underway. By June 2006, out of more than 60,000 apartment buildings and private homes destroyed, 900 have been rebuilt. Out of several dozens of industrial enterprises, three have been partially rebuilt – the Grozny Machine-Building Factory, the Krasny Molot (Red Hammer) and Transmash factories. The railway communication was restored in 2005, and Grozny’s Severny airport was reopened in 2007 with three weekly flights to Moscow. Most of the city’s infrastructure was destroyed and many continue to live in ruined buildings without heating and running water.

The most colourful part of the Carnival is the brightly lit night parades. Every year some half a million spectators bundle up and line the snowy streets of the city. The parades feature fantastic floats, marching bands and many clowns. Even though it was freezing cold – about six degrees below zero – the night that I watched the parade, I could not believe my eyes when a band of young ladies marched by dressed in kilts.

To the Québécois, Carnaval is more than an annual celebration. It’s a state of mind, a place where for ten days every February, they glorify winter. It’s a place where people’s imaginations take over, where adults can feel like kids again. For the Québécois, winter is a time for rejoicing and what better way to do that than to join them in celebrating Carnaval.

The 2007 Carnival edition is dedicated to Carlo Goldoni. The year 2007 is the three-hundred year anniversary of the birth of Venice’s most famous and most representative playwright. The 2007 Carnival will be a popular and all-embracing one. It will be a mosaic of arts, made up of numerous pieces, with various and entertaining themes: live music, comedy, acrobats, dancing, costume parades with competitions for the most beautiful masks.
