In Mexico both the Army and Navy have special forces groups or elite units.
Mexican Army Special Forces

The Army has a Special Forces Corps unified command and its formed of 3 Special Forces Brigades, a High Command GAFE group, a GAFE group assigned to the Airborne Brigade and several Amphibious Special Forces Groups.
Mexican Army Special Forces

The Special Forces Brigades are formed by 9 SF battalions. The First brigade has the 1°, 2° y 3° SF battalions, The Second brigade has the 5°,6°,7° y 8°, and the Third brigade has the 4° y 9° and a Rapid Intervention Force group.
The High Command GAFE is a group with no more than 100 members, they are specially trained in counter-terrorist tactics. They receive orders directly from the Secretary of National Defense.
The Navy has a special operations force called Fuerzas Especiales, better known as FES. Their specialty are unconventional warfare, assault, counter-terrorism, and special reconnaissance operations.
There is also another special forces unit called Batallones de Comandos Anfibios. These units carry out special tasks for the Amphibious Reaction Forces (Marines).

# 5 - alfred - 17/09/2011 - 8:32 pm

Hi, contrary to all the ignorant opinions, I think Mexico may not be the military power like USA, but here go, Mexico don’t need to be cause we are pacifist country, even do our soldiers get a good tarining and lately good equipment, now a lot people don’t said this, there is military powers like USA, Rusia an other tha they get their ass kick from small all third world countrys like vietnam, afganistan and so so, I think is not the size of your military/ it is your brains

I feel bad for all does ignorant americans makibg the country i love bad and thos mexican ignorans making the country i love look bad stop been ignorant u both dumb asses. Mexico and U.S will never go to war. Both armies are great. I live both countries, few people will understand. Both countries have shity goverments yes true. Next year after high school i will try and become a U.S marine then try to join the FES.

# 8 - Cristina - 28/10/2011 - 7:23 pm

Kay, I hate that everyone is pointing fingers at a specific country in relation to the drug war in MX. IT’S BOTH COUNTRIES FAULT AND RESPONSIBILITY TO CLEAN UP AFTER IT! obviously the U.S citizens demands for the substance and some people in MX supply it. People blame MX for all of this; all the drugs that end up the US that is. But come on…there HAS TO BE corruptness within the U.S BORDERSSS. Do you really think that massive amounts of drugs wind up in the U.S without those working within the U.S borders noticing? There’s always going to be corruptness within a government regardless of what it is and what consequences are held for that person because at the end of the day they’re going to be paid. So stop blaming MX for it and the U.S and come on guys, do we really need to use all this cussing? nuh. Let’s be civilized people please :). But on a more serious note; if there’s politicians in the U.S who do alot for power; what makes you think there won’t be people within the borders risking it for power AND money? They don’t ALWAYS necessarily go hand in hand (depending on the situation). So both countries are to blame for it. And I hate that the U.S isn’t doing anything about it and if one day in the near future they do decide to do something about it there’s goign to be ALOTTT of debate about it. That the U.S shouldn’t help because it’s Mexico’s problem but at the end of the day…whose people are demanding for the substance? Both countries kill for it (in communities). It’s a topic that needs to be addressed but unfortunately, I don’t see that happening too soon because the U.S is too preocuppied with several other countries. Our government needs to open their eyes that soon we’re going to be faced without a problem that will grow out of hand and hopefully not but maybe even too much for the government to handle as we can see in MX. Their government cannot contain the drug trafficking because the U.S is not providing enough security within its borders. It needs to worry more about border control where vehicles are legally being transported instead of illegal immigrants. Think about it; all these people in the U.S who consume these drugs can’t keep the flow of money going because it’s in the black market. Illegals actually still contribute more than them. But if we did more to contain drug trafficking we’d be able to keep the flow of money going bc MAYBE that money would’nt go too much into the black market and actually start going into the economy plus the revenue that comes with illegals. Cause I mean; it’s not like illegals don’t contribute anything at all to the American economy. Already there’s a lot of complaints within those states that have “cracked down” on illegals. Farm owners are complaining about no one harvesting crops and it’s the crops are going bad because no one is willing to do the work. I just wish both countries would pull themselves together. Again, illegals are going to enter the U.S regardless of what laws there are so why not actually provide them with real opportunites and that way they can contribute EVEN MORE to what they already do.

# 9 - Jaws7 - 08/11/2011 - 4:08 am

On a one to one basis there is no comparison betweem the Mexican Armed Forces and the US Armed Forces. One has a budget, per what I have read on the internet, of approx. 6 billion and the other, the US, spends over a trillion. So comparison is not fair. But Viet Nam proves such expenditures do not guarantee success. So a lower budget does
not mean you cannot field a good
army. But lacking air cover or a good missile defense system a good army would face serious problems.

# 10 - Jaws7 - 08/11/2011 - 5:33 am

It is an unfair comparison of the armies. Mexico spends about 6
billion for its armed forces while the US spends about one trillion.

About drugs. The US has high tech equip and can track where the drugs are grown and who transports them thru Mexico but once they
cross the border all the high
tech equip stops working and they
do not know who ended up with the
drugs. Kind of suspicious to me.

# 13 - 7th SF Captain - 17/11/2011 - 6:11 am

I remember I trained a couple of these guys, they played around a lot but when they had to get serious they got serious, alot of them have pretty good endurance but most of them dont have discipline and a lot of them didnt really want to listen to me or my men. but overall they were great soldiers and well armed by the U.S of course they are not as trained as the U.S soldiers but they are pretty advanced compared to other latin american countries.

# 14 - Greg - 17/11/2011 - 10:25 am

Every country is best in it’s own way no need to compare though i do wish sometimes the My Army would bring back starch and shine the only real thing that can make you look like a soldier and mean as hell too :). But for some dumb reason we got rid of it to put grunts in front of laptops and xbox’s, Hi Tech dosn’t make a soldier its whats inside as well as outside and the way he or she is trained that makes one.

Im a US Marine and have been on an army base for some time now and ive got to say it is rare to find a squared away army soldier theyre so spoiled and weak minded. Ive seen some the training that the Mexican army does, theyre much more disciplined.

# 29 - PELOE619 - 01/03/2012 - 9:21 pm

I am a former us army soilder. Who wants to come to mexico. To fight the drug cartels. I’m trainging right now in QCB, Systema, and krav maga. So I’m ready to take the fight to the cartels, and since I not from teir. I can’t be scared off. Over someone hurting my family. Plus no one will know me. So I will be harder to get to. I beleave you take out the cartels. The better it will be. For both Mexico, and the US in te long run.
