Very interesting. I might have to “study” this whole beach volleyball thing ;)

Isn’t this quite interesting! If I could say the signs are interesting as well as the choice sizes they choose on bathing suit bottoms….perhaps the next size up will be more professional.

What signs?

fyi the opponent’s side is divided into a grid with nine spaces. the team member closer to the net sees what area is clear and signals which space to serve to.

For the record, in indoor the side is split into 6 spots (not 9), 1 starting at the back right (if facing the net) and moving counter clockwise, so 6 would finish in the back middle.

This doesn’t apply to beach however as you don’t play with 6 people you only play with 2. The signs that are being given are blocking signs. The blocker is telling the defensive player that they will block cross (two fingers) or line (one finger). The right hand is for the player to their right (the power player) and the left hand is for the player to the left (the “right side” or “weak” player).
