I have 2 long hair cats…one with very thick hair…I just brush them 3 times a week..would rather that, then have them look like these poor looking things =^..^=

I don’t think I would call it cruel.
Usually people shave their long hair cats when they neglect to brush regularly not because they think the cat will be cooler. If you’re not going to brush don’t get a long or medium hair cat…

These people should not be allowed to own pets. If I knew their addresses I would report them. How disgusting that in this day and age people still abuse their size and power over animals

I'm rather sure that all of the "anonymous" posters do not own long haired cats. (or apparently a dictionary)

Our poor Cougie-bear, a long haired Maine-Coon cat is 15 years old and CAN'T groom himself properly, so his fur gets all matted and he cries from the discomfort. Even brushing doesn't help. Shaving? It helps him, and he's happier for it.

Our two short hairs? They not only love their brush, but they CAN groom themselves, so no shaving for them.

if you want a pet with no fur to cause you allergies, why not get a potbellied pig, or better yet, a lizard.

these owners are justifying these shavings by saying that the cats are cooler, have less hairballs, cause less allergies, etc; but i think that deep down they can’t just respect the dignity of an animal they way it’s been created, and also have WAY too much time/ money on their hands.

This isn’t cruel, it’s necessary. I have 2 cats that i have to shave in the summer time because the heat is unbearable here in new orleans. they are a little out of it the first day, which is when these pictures were likely taken, but then they are way more active than before! and they don’t puke up hair balls all the time. cats don’t exactly smile all the time anyway. these ones are not depressed, they’re posed and then have their picture taken.

Cats are freaking house or out door pets. THEY DON'T NEED TO BE SHAVED. GO SHAVE UR OWN PUSSY IF U WANNA SHAVE SOMETHING.

my mom used to do this to our long-haired cats in the summer. we lived in texas and they went out-doors. they looked tragic for about an hour, but they were cooler & didn’t get as many fleas (pre-advantage, etc) or sticker-burrs in their coats.

the funniest part was that she’d leave a puff ball on their tails, poodle-style. i’m sure that got a good smirk from the neighborhood cats.
